Chloe

Venue : Bournemouth International Center
Support : Basement + Don Broco

A while ago i booked tickets to see Bring Me The Horizon. I didn't really know what to expect as I've heard a lot about their gigs which really wasn't sure on how my anxiety would be as well they're the heaviest band I've ever seen live before but oh my god it was possibly one of the best gigs i have been to for a while. The last gig i went to was back in April so to get back into the swing of things gig wise was actually a really nice thing as festivals don't feel the same as a gig. I think with gigs its more of a special experience compared to a festival .I always get nervous before gigs and my anxiety kicks in and then makes me feel really tired. I didn't exactly feel as sleepy when bring me the horizon stepped onstage.

Ok lets take it straight back to the start of the gig with the support acts. The first support were a band from Ipswich called Basement. Their music was alright i think you'd expect me to like it but nope it was not for me at all. I wanted to like their music but it just wasn't for me. Then came Don Broco and well needless to say i was super impressed with them. Don Broco have been a band I've wanted to see live for a while so when they announced that they would be supporting bring me the horizon i was excited to finally get to see them. They did most of the songs i like so that was an added bonus. They really know how to get a crowd going too especially for a support act.

It was then time for Bring Me The Horizon to come onstage and holy crap from the second they walked onstage I've never felt so happy to be at a gig in all my life. The mosh pits opened and I've never seen a proper sized mosh pit that looked that scary considering the amount of gigs I've been to where a mosh pit is probably going to open up at some point. There was even a wall of death which was entertaining to watch especially when your sat on the balcony. I was absolutely blown away with how incredible the band are live as i wasn't so sure on what it was going to be like but everything from the visuals to the atmosphere was just amazing. Its definitely up there with one of the best gigs I've ever been to. I think
one of the best songs that they played was go to hell for heavens sake as it properly got the crowd going and the mosh pits were literally everywhere at this point.

I'd definitely recommend going to see them live if they're your sort of thing because I walked out of that venue on a complete high of excitement , happiness and amazement. I knew they were good live but not that good. It takes a lot of me to be impressed by seeing a bands live show but honestly it was one of my favourite gigs I've been to this year. I also think I made myself ill from getting excited and shouting to all the songs because what i didn't realise was that the next day I would be spending it on my sofa with my duvet feeling like I was going to be sick. Go to a gig and have fun they said it totally won't make you ill the next day ! I think the BIC was one of the smaller venues on the tour that they did but I think I would have rather seen them at the BIC than a bigger arena as it creates a better atmosphere. Anyway the gig was pretty good and I think I would definitely see bring me the horizon again.

More Smaller Bands and Artists To Listen To

Seeing as the first post i did of this went down well i thought i'd do a follow up post of more bands and artists that i think are worth giving a listen. I'm always up for listening to new music and i jump at any opportunity to listen to names that aren't familiar with me at the moment but thats ok because once i give them a listen i definitely am aware of them.

Isaac Gracie
Now this was a name i had seen floating about for a while and kept meaning to give a listen but only until recently i gave his song 'terrified' a listen and instantly added it to my playlist of songs that will possibly help me sleep. Isaac has played SXSW (south by south west) in Austin , texas along with two major uk festivals that are The Great Escape and Glastonbury with BBC Introducing. The songs from my bedroom e.p makes you feel a few different emotions: relaxed , soothing along with wanting to curl into a pillow cry for a few thousand years. Isaac is a name to look out for in the future thats for sure.

Dagny
Coming all the way from Norway is Dagny. Her music is upbeat , catchy and full of pop goodness. Its the sort of music that'd would make you happy on a cloudy day. Her song backbeat was the song that made people get listening to her music when she released it earlier this year. She also released her debut e.p this year too. One of my favourite songs is a song called fools gold which features Borns who has toured with Bleachers and Charli XCX. I love this song so much and i can remember feeling rather happy when i heard this song. She reminds me a little bit of foxes so if you like her then you'll probably like Dagny.

The Big Moon
From having supported The Maccabees to The Vaccines , The Big Moon are gaining new listeners all the time. I heard of The Big Moon whilst browsing through the line up for The Great Escape as they played that this year. They are actually touring now i think. The Big Moon are set to even go on there own tour which is amazingly named the tourtouise tour which is probably one of the best names for a tour i have ever heard. The band are made up of Jules , Fearne , Cecila and Soph. They haven't been a band for very long but they're doing pretty well considering. Also they're videos are actually very good and the silent movie susie one is actually hilarious.

Black Honey
From Brighton , Black Honey have easily become one of my favourite bands to come out of this year. I find they come across as that band that you want to be in because they just all seem like really cool people. The newest song that they have released is called 'Hello Today' will be stuck in your head for a while as I've learnt from listening to the song a few times. Their sound reminds me of something that should belong in the late 70s/early 80s which is always cool when a band try and keep a sense of nostalgia to their music.

Frank Hamilton
Frank's career kicked off when one of his songs named You , Your Cat & Me went rather viral on myspace many years ago. Since then he's released two albums and performed at Hyde Park along side the likes of Ray Davies and Elvis Costello. The songs from #onesongaweek were co-written with Newton Faulkner and Ed Sheeran which is pretty cool. I absolutely love franks music. I think if you do like Ed and Newtons stuff you'll like frank as its very similar. I absolutely can't recommend giving frank's album songs to make life slightly less awkward a listen and I'm really enjoying this at the moment.

NAO
Her debut album for all we know was released back in July this year and it debuted at number 17 in the UK album charts. Her sound is a more alternative approach to R&B and i absolutely love it. Its not something that i'd normally listen to but her album is actually rather good. She's also done a few songs with the likes of Mura Masa and Disclosure. I feel like if you like the sort of sound that Disclosure and Mura Masa produce then NAO is definitely worth checking out. She's someone I'm really enjoying listening to at the moment as I'm absolutely loving the album.

Leikeli47
I love female rappers i think there is just something about them that i absolutely love. I first heard of Lekeli47 when i was browsing spotify and her song called Girl Gang was on a playlist i was having a browse through. She wears a mask which is something she's rather well known for. She once said in a interview that wearing a mask keeps the focus on the music. Her music is literally the most badass thing I've ever heard and i absolutely love it.

Bry
I bloody love Bry. He is absolutely hilarious and is a really genuine person. Bry makes youtube videos along with his wife Candice who also seems like a really lovely person too. Bry is supporting Twenty One Pilots on tour around Europe which is crazy and is finally releasing his debut album in November. Bry has also changed his name about 100 times due to reasons but he's now just Bry. My favourite song of his is Don't Go Alone. Its a really sad song but it has a really upbeat tune to it.

Meadowlark
Kate and Dan create the most peaceful and calm music i have ever heard. Kate had started off with doing a solo career which she then decided to form a band.
Their newest song headlights is worth giving a listen because compared to other things they have released this is a bit more up beat and has a really catchy chorus. The duo remind me a bit of Oh Wonder so if you like them then you'll like these.

Hannah Grace
Signed to Gabrielle Aplin's label never fade records Hannah released the meant to be kind e.p back in 2014. Since then she toured with Gabrielle Aplin for a bit doing backing vocals and this year she released her 2nd e.p called Mustang. I feel like if you like Gabrielle Aplin then hannah is someone you should give a listen. She has such a powerful voice and her song mustang is one of my favourites.

Well maybe i'll do another one of these posts because i actually love being able to share some of the names that i love listening to. I definitely recommend giving them all a listen if they sound like something you would want to listen or if your just looking for something new to listen to as i think finding new music can almost be a really fun thing to do. When i attend festivals i always try and make an effort to at least find one band or artist that I've not heard of a chance to see them live as i think being able to see someone live is always a good way of finding new things to listen to.

What I've Learnt About Going To Festivals

So i've been going to festivals for 4 years now which is hard to believe considering how much i love talking about festivals on here. My first festival experience was at Isle of Wight Festival and it was probably one of the worst ones I've ever been to in my 4 years of attending IOW Festival in the terms of the weather. It was cold, muddy and rained every day. There was even a massive puddle by a tree that apparently someone did a poop in it was that bad. Ive also recently gone to Bestival which was ok as i got to see tonnes of bands that i got to see for the 2nd time or ones that I've wanted to see for a while.

Now I've suffered from anxiety for as long as i can remember. I've seen a lot of people on twitter saying that they wish they could go to a festival but they can't because anxiety is holding them back. I've gone to a few festivals and have been incredibly anxious every single time i go to one and yes i do have a panic attack here and there but once the bands are onstage i instantly forget about all my worries and anxiety. I don't stand at the front or in the main part of the crowd all day. I know you want to see the bands up close but honestly if your not a fan of being in squashy spaces you don't want to be watching the headlining act down the front. Its definitely more chilled at the back and as I'm not a huge fan of massive crowds this is something i find helps a lot. I hate massive crowds but when your there is a lot more space than you think there is.

If i do go to the front I've been down the front in the early afternoon when slightly smaller acts have been on. I did go down the front for Kodaline last year and did feel claustrophobic , anxious and terrified but once they started i felt a bit more at ease with the whole situation. This was the same year that i was sort of harassed by a man and thought i was going to pass out because of lots of people on shoulders during You Me At Six. Ok when i say i was sort of harassed by a man this idiot attempted to pick me up and run off with me which wasn't cool but in the end he put me down and ran off like a cackling hyena and yes i did try to kick him in the balls.

I'll say it again but I've already said this before but I'm extremely lucky to live near to major uk festivals that happen every year. I think its super important to go to a festival that's close by and that you can travel to so you don't have to camp or even buy a day ticket so your only going for a day and you don't have to camp at all. Ive never camped because I'm so close by and i don't think i ever would camp at a festival unless i was in a glamping tent but they are so expensive to stay in so there is no way that would ever happen.

Now this will probably be a little to much information but i avoid the toilets at festivals. Yup thats right i don't pee at festivals i only have twice and i never will again unless I'm absolutely desperate. My main piece of advice is don't drink a lot of alcohol or get drunk because then you will be wanting to pee constantly which means queuing up to use the port a loos and by the end of the day they're gross looking which is something you don't want to be using at all.
I don't like being around people that are heavily drunk as I'm absolutely terrified of people that drink so much that they will pretty much use you to stand up because they can't walk. Go with people that won't be that person that needs friends to prop them up.

If you've never been to a festival here is some advice I'm going to give to you :

Don't take anything thats valuable either buy a back up or leave it behind. I take my camera but i keep it on me at all times .
If your feeling anxious make sure your with people that are willing to chill at the back with you.
Pick a smaller sized festival if its your first time going to one I wrote a post about the best small festivals to go to and i shall leave the link here !
Stand at the back later on in the evening when the headliners are on if you don't like being surrounded by a lot of people there will probably be a bit more space.
It will be stupidly busy so obviously be prepared for there to be a lot of people.
If you are drinking don't drink so much that you get drunk there is nothing worse than acting like an idiot and embarrassing yourself.
If you decide to camp be warned its not for the faint hearted.

Well i hope this post helped. I kind of feel like this was me ranting a little bit but i guess rants are what i do best. Festivals might come across as being this horribly daunting place and i mean it can be scary the first time you go because i'll admit when i was 14 I've never been so scared in all my life as there was some man that was literally off his face and a fight broke out which really frightened me as this was my first time going to a festival in general and ever since then i've not stopped going back again because i love live music and it costs so much to see some of the bands that do play the festivals that I've been to because i live on an island where travel doesn't come cheap. What are your thoughts on festivals ? if you've not been would you ever go to one ?
