A Guide On How To A Survive A Gig

18.10.15

I've been to a fair few gigs and when i say a few i have been to a lot. There are somethings that we are either guilty of doing or have seen happen at gigs before and from past experiences i have witnessed a fair few things happen that i really never want to ever have to see again !

Here is my wonderful guide on how to survive a gig !

1. People that look through their photos on their phone before the gig starts.

So when i go to gigs i tend to sit down on the balcony because I'm not to good being in large crowds of people and i can't see a thing because I'm super short. Now when i went to see Royal Blood back in March we got stuck by these two men which one of them decided to show his friend some photos of I'm guessing was his girlfriend which of course i could literally see because they were sat right in front of me and had the phone in the middle of their seats. Gigs are for live music not viewing your photo gallery on your phone !

2. Never film the whole gig on your IPAD or phone.

This makes me so angry when people just go to film the whole gig. Your not supposed to even bring iPads in so i don't understand how this can happen. This exact thing happened at Royal Blood i don't even know how they managed to get an iPad in is ridiculous. It was same people who were  sharing their photos to everyone around them too which made things even worse. The entire time Royal Blood were on they literally sat their filming the whole thing ! Who even does that you go there to see them play live not record it if the band wanted it recorded they would have had it filmed professionally not by a iPhone or iPad !

3. Getting intimate will only make people either get excited and start cheering or everyone will get peed off and distracted by people eating each others faces off.

I can understand if you've just got engaged but if your just going  stand their eating each others faces off until the band that you paid with your own money to see finishes their set. My first gig i ever went to and this happens with two people who were stood at the back in the corner which attracted the attention of some man who cheered them on. It was only until my gig buddy (my mum because she's great and comes to most of my gigs with me) noticed the couple who literally didn't stop the whole time it was not what i wanted to see at my first ever gig besides going to festivals.

4. Loud singing.

I am guilty of doing this after watching some videos i took when i went to see All Time Low and You Me At Six on their co headline tour . Me and my friend watched back all of the videos we took at the hotel and you could just hear me and my friend both screaming at the tops of our voices along to every song. Now thinking about it i feel really bad about the people who were sat near us as we were so loud !

5. People that get deicide to get rather drunk and want to keep buying drinks.

If you've sat on a balcony before then you will be able to understand this hell that happens. There was a group of three people that were sat next to us and one of the people kept getting up and buying the two other people he was with more drinks that got them so drunk that by the end of the gig they were stumbling around. What was more annoying was that they asked us to switch seats so they wouldn't be 'annoying'. We rejected the offer of switching seats with them as i had the perfect view from where i was so i didn't want to move. They didn't stop getting out and buying drinks i didn't really get why they were their if they were just going to get really really drunk and become rather annoying and rowdy !

This has turned into a mini rant about the things i don't like that have happened at gigs to me before but i will probably be going to a few more next year too depending if theres anyone that i really want to see and i can get to easily. I hope this is a helpful guide or something interesting to read !
