Blogmas day 4 : Jack Garratt

4.12.16

Venue : O2 Guildhall Southampton
Support : Seramic

Jack Garratt has had a crazy year to say the least ! From winning the bbc sound of 2017 , releasing an album and winning the brits critics choice award he's had a pretty busy year. Jack is possibly one of the most insanely talented people i have ever seen. Besides from playing every single song solo just by using a loop pedal and every instrument possible. Jack also writes and produces his music which is pretty impressive. Jack was on a list i did last year of people to look out for in 2016 and scarily i predicted that he would get a critics choice nomination. When i saw that Jack would be coming to Southampton i just knew i had to get tickets ! I felt very lucky to get tickets as it sold out within a couple of days.

Seramic were the support for the evening and i really enjoyed their set. I had only listened to two songs before going to the gig as i didn't want to go in blind not knowing what they sounded like. Bananas were thrown into the crowd and the dance where you look like you need to pee was happening everywhere in the guildhall. Their sound is incredibly infectious and some of it really makes you want to have a little boogie no matter where you are. They saved my favourite song till last which is called Gregs Love. Go and give the song a listen as its got a very soul and funk vibe to it.

It was then time for Jack to come onstage. Jack comes across as really genuine and you can really tell he enjoys being up on that stage. I can't remember what he opened with but as soon as he walked on that stage i knew this was going to be a very special gig that i wouldn't forget. As cheesy that might sound but its true it was a very special evening. Seeing someone that talented up on a stage doing something that they love always makes me happy. The most memorable part of the gig was the cover he did. He joked that he could probably do a few intros of a few songs and so he decided to wind people up by playing the intros and claiming that they were the actual cover. I was in hysterics , i couldn't feel my cheeks because i was laughing a lot.

I feel very lucky that i got to see Jack in that size venue. The guildhall in southampton has a 1,749 capacity which is actually really small considering that its a rather large venue. I really enjoyed seeing Jack last month and i think it was the first gig I've been to thats been on a Sunday. Sundays are weird days to have a gig but it was nice though. If you've not listened to Jack's debut album Phase i suggest you give that a listen as i really like it and i think its great.
